Going Green!

by admin on July 19, 2010

Green is buzzword and it means make the world a safer place to live. In fact go for green is not a difficult task. So many tiny efforts can make a big difference. You don’t need to demonstrate in the street rather do it from your home or office. People often misinterpret the word green. In essence green means don’t waste energy rather save it for future. As a human being it is your responsibility to make the planet green. So let’s start the noble initiative and encourage other to do so.

Just begin
Beginning is very important. At first you don’t need to go for large scale change rather go for individual change. Try to be a role model at your office. You may find difficulties initially but later you would find it easier because of your sincere efforts.

Conserve your computer’s energy
Regardless of office or home you cannot think of a single day without computer. But do you know computer consume much energy than other electronics. So what can you do? Certainly you would not stop using computer. You can use computer and monitor that consume less energy. Screen saver takes energy rather than save it. So don’t do it. Another good way to save energy is to keep the computer in sleep mode that can save 60-70% of power. Turn off your computer whenever you’re not using it, especially when leaving work.

Unplug printer, scanner etc.
Printers, video cards, speakers, and scanners are more prone to consume energy even when you not use it. So turn off them and save energy. Unplug power adapters, battery chargers and other chargers when not in use.

Be conscious about using paper
Do you know how many papers you waste every day?  So try to use less paper or to go for a paperless day. Things are much easier like keep copies of important emails, files, and more on your computer, use old paper with extra space to print small documents, send company updates through email instead of on paper review any documents online instead of printing them out.

If you are force to use paper then you can opt to use recycled and chlorine-free paper or using paper made from organic products like bamboo, cotton or hemp. Another nice way is to print on both sides of the paper and save and reuse old boxes. In fact if you are careful enough to safe paper then you have more available option like to use old sheets of paper for scrap paper to write any note.

Increase dependency on nature
Nature should be your great friend. Remember increase dependency on nature ultimately force you to make the nature green. Start your work by replacing your desk lamp light bulbs and overhead lights with energy savings light. Just turn off lights when nobody is using an office, conference room, your workspace, or the whole office at night. You can make the best use of every season like during cold weather, keep blinds open to let the warmth in; during warm weather, keep blinds pulled to close out the heat of the summer sun.

Green your office desk
Go for green is not only save the planet but also can give your desk a good look. Just have a plant and place it on or near your desk.  Plants absorb indoor air pollution and increase the flow of oxygen, so get a green accessory to complement your desk!
